Qualcomm’s New 700 Series Chips may Mean More than just Power to Artificial Intelligence
TECHREVIEW247 takes an insightful look at the emerging Snapdragon 700 – A Review.
Qualcomm the world’s leading chipset manufacturer for smartphones is all set to launch an affordable solution in making AI featured phones available (even lower in price than the Snapdragon 660) with its new 700 series of processors unveiled at MWC on Tuesday 2018.The processors are especially for China’s consumption but will spread out in due course to other geographic regions.
Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm senior vice president and general manager mobile division, made a statement saying “The Snapdragon 700 Series is optimized to support the experiences consumers have come to expect from the most advanced mobile devices at a lower price point.”
Alex is clearly pointing out to the present Qualcomm’s 845 chipsets when mentioning affordability, as the Snapdragon 800 series is a very pricey processor and makes the cost of the phone higher.
Qualcomm’s 700 series will utilize the maximum AI capabilities, bringing out the best of the chipset and AI integration. It will be faster, have better cameras, will be directly boosted by the RAM with similar technology to make features that are presently available only on flagship smartphones.
Qualcomm said “Multicore “AI Engine” on the Snapdragon 700 will be able to process ‘on-device AI requests’ over twice as fast as its predecessor, Snapdragon 660. Phones using the chip also will be able to offer ‘a multitude’ of professional-grade camera features, such as slow motion and low-light shooting.” This would definitely be a huge plus when the company shells out the new processor Snapdragon 700 series.
Compared to Snapdragon 660 the ‘700’ will be over twice as power efficient along with a ‘Charge 4+’ tech in powering batteries. Connectivity will greatly benefit with “ultra-fast LTE.” The Bluetooth 5 multicast audio and ultra-low power wireless earbud support with 5G already being discussed to be launched soon in its full first phase burst will be like the whiff of a wand. That would give you a 50% battery charge on an average 3400mAh to 4000mAh battery. Not bad at all- rather what more would we want?
But Qualcomm wants ‘more’. The launch of Snapdragon 700 in China means that Qualcomm who is the world’s number 1 at the moment and delivering both Apple and Samsung with high-end Snapdragon chipsets is in a ferocious battle losing to Intel and Chinese mammoths. For instance, the Korean Giant Samsung powers its midrange and lower end phones with Exynos, getting better every year and Exynos RAM working in perfect alignment to deliver power and presently available AI features. Qualcomm’s 700 chipsets, higher in features and integration will make room for the Snapdragon manufacturer to make Chinese/Korean brands use a cheaper and higher quality chip for their smartphones.
In this race what 660 offers will be left behind in the mid of 2018 and 700 if taken well by Huawei, Samsung and other Chinese giants will bring better and more useful not to mention faster mobile phone solution in your pockets with larger and better responsive displays. Anytime in a couple of months, we may see the Snapdragon 700 snap in at the competitive market.
